31 March, 2026 15:29

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 49-year-old John Kwabena Owusu Ansah over a viral video in which he allegedly threatened a sitting High Court judge, Her Ladyship Justice Patricia Quansah. The arrest took place at Antoakrom in the Ashanti Region on March 27, 2026, following intelligence-led operations by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.

Police confirmed in a statement on March 31, 2026, that the video contained abusive language, threats, and allegations accusing Justice Quansah of criminal conduct. Authorities noted that the content posed a serious risk to the safety of the judge and threatened the reputation of Ghana’s Judiciary.

Justice Quansah has previously emphasized the importance of digital evidence in court proceedings. At a Commonwealth cybercrime symposium in October 2025, she highlighted that training in cybercrime equips judges to handle and assess digital evidence effectively.

The case is being handled under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772). These laws provide penalties for unlawful online content, including fines, license revocation, and criminal prosecution. Mr. Ansah remains in police custody assisting with investigations and will soon be brought before the court.
