King Charles III will deliver a speech to the US Congress on April 28 during his Washington visit, House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed Wednesday.
Traveling with Queen Camilla, the monarch’s itinerary celebrates the 250th anniversary of American independence from British rule—a trip long in the works. Afterward, the royal pair heads to Bermuda, Buckingham Palace announced Tuesday.
The prominent outing reflects UK aims to rebuild and fortify ties with former President Donald Trump, frayed by Iran conflict frictions.
It will be the first such state visit by a UK sovereign since Queen Elizabeth II’s fourth US trip in 2007.
President Trump outlined the schedule: It starts April 27 with a White House banquet dinner, leading into the king’s congressional address.
“This visit marks a historic moment in UK-US relations and celebrates centuries of shared history and cooperation,” officials noted.
