Netanyahu Faces Criticism as Analyst Labels Iran War Strategy a $80 Billion Failure

01 April, 2026 18:31

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent comments downplaying Iran as an existential threat are drawing heavy fire. Experts are reading it as a sign his big plans have flopped.

Brazilian military analyst Patricia Marins called it straight-up admission of loss, not toughness. She posted on X that the talk screams defeat.

“There is nothing more defeatist than this. It is 100% defeatist rhetoric,” Marins said.

She broke it down: Netanyahu had three main aims against Iran—topple the regime, kneecap their missiles, and trash the nuclear program. None happened.

“He has achieved none of these objectives,” Marins stated.

On top of that, the war’s costing a fortune—losses piling up to $60-80 billion overall. Just running the military ops runs $1.5-2 billion a day, factoring in defenses and wrecked infrastructure.

Marins said thousands of payout claims are already in from Iranian missile damage, and Israel’s Finance Ministry pegs weekly economic hits at about $3 billion.

She blamed it on Netanyahu’s “megalomania,” saying it’s created way more headaches than it fixed.

Worse, she warned the fight might push Iran straight toward nukes.

“If the Iranians hadn’t built a nuclear weapon before, now they have every reason to do so,” Marins said.

The backlash is fueling hot arguments about whether Israel’s approach in the region is working or just digging a deeper hole.
